Working with Karma and Emptiness Four Wednesdays of online study 10/23, 10/30, 11/6 and 11/13 at 3PM-4:30PM EST

Ok, let's dig into two Buddhist teachings that go hand in hand, both of which are often found to be baffling or esoteric. Understanding the teachings around emptiness is an essential aspect of not just getting an intellectual understanding of karma, but actually being able to work with it in our lives. Which is important, because one thing is for sure: none of us can evade our own karma. It's an inescapable aspect of how we live. Yet when we understand what karma is and how it works, it can be liberating, rather than entrapping. Our lives may feel less like a foregone conclusion; we even might feel a little less stuck with ourselves.

The purpose of this class is not to boost our scholarly knowledge or sharpen our intellectual understanding, but to explore ways of interacting with our own karma and lives that are practical, as well as expanding our sense of possibilities. Let's get our hands on this thing. To quote the great Zen teacher Thich Nhat Hanh, "we have more possibilities available in each moment than we realize." Let’s wake up to some of those possibilities!

All classes will be recorded for asynchronous participation.
